How To
EMPIRICALLY PRESCRIBE
HYBRID CONTACT LENSES
Benefits of Empirical Fitting
Visual Clarity of a GP Lens
Hybrid lenses offer crisp GP optics, stable vision not affected by lens rotation1, delivering great vision for patients. Empirical fitting of hybrid lenses is now available for patients with astigmatism, presbyopia, keratoconus or other irregular cornea conditions. SynergEyes iD, UltraHealth, SynergEyes KC, SynergEyes A, Duette and Duette Progressive hybrid lenses can all be fit empirically.
With empirical fitting, patients have a wearable first lens experience that showcases the exceptional visual qualities of the hybrid lens from the start.
Efficiency
Empirical fitting of hybrid lenses can bring increased efficiency to your practice by saving valuable chair time, streamlining the fitting process, reducing reliance on reusable fit sets (with the associated maintenance that they require), and eliminating the physical application of trial lenses on patients. Empirical fitting removes the need to disinfect and reuse a diagnostic lens and replaces it with a technology-driven, custom design. SynergEyes has developed a proprietary algorithm that determines the unique lens to manufacture for each patient, using accurate patient measurements.
Revenue Retention
SynergEyes hybrid lenses are available exclusively through Independent ECPs (not online or through mass merchandisers), providing an opportunity for practice differentiation and recaptured revenue. Practitioners retain 100% of their revenue and profitability from their hybrid patient care.
1. GP optics negate corneal astigmatism; rotation of the lens is inconsequential.
How to Empirically Prescribe SynergEyes iD
Hybrid Contact Lenses
SynergEyes iD hybrid lenses are individually designed to each patient’s unique ocular anatomy. The fitting is straightforward, utilizing Keratometric readings, HVID and Refraction to personalize precise lens parameters. There is no need to choose between fixed skirt or base curve options; a patient’s unique corneal diameter and curvature drive the specific lens design, with new linear skirts following the linear shape of the sclera. The multifocal lens is powered by a proprietary Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) design from the Brien Holden Vision Institute, and proven multifocal optics provide patients with a clear visual experience that smoothly transitions through all distances.

How to Empirically Prescribe UltraHealth
Hybrid Contact Lenses
Hybrid contact lens options that can be prescribed empirically for patients with keratoconus include SynergEyes KC and UltraHealth.
UltraHealth lenses are the most advanced hybrid lens. While indicated for keratoconus, the 'Continuum of Care' sweet spot is for patients with mild to moderate keratoconus. UltraHealth is designed to vault the corneal ectasia, providing well-centered, gas permeable vision along with comfort from the soft skirt.
To Place an Empirical Order:
Provide a topography (PDF or raw data) with the following information to a SynergEyes Technical Consultant:
- Keratometry readings
- Eccentricity data, often listed as e, e2, CEI,
- Shape Factor, or Q value
- HVID
- For power, provide previous RGP or scleral data with base curve and over-refraction.

The SynergEyes Empirical Lens Calculator can be used to help select the initial lens.
